Now that I have an iPod I have been getting into podcasting. Of course you don’t have to have an iPod to listen to podcasts but iTunes makes it all so easy. If only there was a linux version…
Anyway a couple of my favourite podcasts are the Ricky Gervais Show - pant-wettingly funny - and Dr Karl on triple j.
I hadn’t listened to the ABC for a long time and it is funny to hear how totally paranoid they are about mentioning a particular product by name on air. It is quite extraordinary. Even when identifying some commercial thing by name would make things so much clearer they always have to make these weird allusions to it. I guess it is in their charter or something as a non-commercial broadcaster but the BBC doesn’t seem to have a problem about stuff like that.

After the server crashed it seemed as good a time as any to redesign the site. So after many long hours at the keyboard, this is the result; the all-singing, all-dancing, object-oriented, dynamically created website. I know you don’t care about all that. You just want to know why it took so long to get back online and why the pages load so slowly now. Seriously though, I am spoiled by my broadband connection so if any sections of the site are painfully slow please let me know. Or better yet, get broadband installed.
I have had to rewrite almost every page of the site and reading over the last four years in fast-forward has been an interesting experience. It’s fun to notice the transition from the wide-eyed young Adelaide boy in the big city to the cynical Londoner you see before you now. In one entry I drop into St James’s on Piccadilly to see a lunchtime concert, little realising I would be performing there regularly in the future.
Perhaps one day my journal will become a great historical document like Pepys’s. Or perhaps it will vanish in a steaming pile of bits on a trashed hard drive. I have a cold at the moment and it seems to have put me in a reflective mood. Sorry.
Anyway, enjoy the site. More photos are coming, including our time in Malaysia.
I know, that was six months ago…

I managed to survive the hell that is retail at Christmas time in London; working long hours while my wife was enjoying business class flights to the ridiculously warm Antipodes.
My sister stopped by on her way to Zurich and seemed to bring a trace of the Aussie (well, Melbourne) weather with her. The Christmas period was unseasonably warm in London; temperatures maxed about 12 degrees. Very odd. We didn’t have much time together (what, with the jet-lag induced bouts of catatonia), but we did spend an enjoyable day exploring the Tardis-like Camden Market.
Kathryn returned to London in time to miss the warm weather and catch the pouring rain.
We went to see the new James Bond film - Die Another Day. I thought it was top. Some amazing driving scenes featuring an Aston Martin (equipped with invisibility) versus a Jaguar XK (equipped with missiles and stuff) - on ice! I was also interested to note the (excellent) sword fighting scene was shot inside the Reform Club. I wonder how many other moviegoers recognized the building from experience; I doubt many of the exclusive Pall Mall club’s members would go to a Bond film.
